    Hey!

No, I know. Not all my posts are meaningful--and I post less than I used to. And, in general, people who shoot up to 100 posts in their first couple of days here have perhaps two or three posts of substance. If that.

Ok, I have to ask? What's up with the smiley-free posting? Is this a protest or is there a prize involved? Or are you just saving bandwidth?

Oops, I didn't realize that substance was required. If I went back and deleted all my posts that are lacking substance...well, then I might as well just unregister my account.

    ^ Class A - is that a misdemeanor or a felony?

Because I'm on probation for the last time I got caught with substance.

I think it's a respose to 01101001's post about never using smilies and a test to see if it's possible to do for long without getting misunderstood.

Ha! hhEb09'1's easy enough to misunderstand with smilies!

Depends on the jurisdiction. Better play it safe and not post with any substance.

You and HenrikOlsen are both correct, but the test has imploded miserably. I've come to realize it's not my problem, however.

I really should include a smiley at the start and end of every single post. That's just how I post to BAUT.

Did you know that the monolith in 2001 was actually based on Groucho Marx's moustache?

picture a face, a big yellow face, the one with the overbite, like the one that Paulhoff ruined for me on the Richard Dawkins forum.
Now picture a sad face, with little droopy sides of the mouth,
now picture the stupid smiley face that Paul used in triplets, over and over and over and over again, and made me want to put a voodoo curse on. are you picturing a grinning face? no well, these things are sort of dynamic.

I don't think there is a universally accepted value. I suspect it also depends on their normal posting frequency. For some of us, it might be only hours before we are late to post.

I know that The_Supreme_Canuck will be coming back; he had a bike accident and suffered unpleasant injuries that make typing problematic.

Ow! I hadn't known he'd been hurt. Get well soon, TSC.

It's part and parcel of being in a relatively tight-knit community like Baut, Geonuc. Sooner or later, people go missing, and sooner or later, it was bound to happen that we'd end up losing someone for real, and not just to drift.

It hurt when it happened, but I think overall, we're better for facing that risk. Our community is worth that.

    Oh.

    That's depressing indeed.

I presume that was why the memorial thread came into existance? I'm sorry to say I never (board-wise) met the person.

Agreed, and I'm old enough to appreciate the value of community.

But I really wasn't intending on travelling that road tonight. I posted here because BigDon has been silent for a while. As I'm unaware of any circumstances whereby he might go off in a huff or anything like that, I worry. But it's been only two weeks, so perhaps it's nothing.

Don wanders in and out pretty often. It's not unusual for him to be away for a week or so.

I have located Richard of Chelmsford.
    Mike has already been informed.
