1. ## Riddle

12 pears hanging high 11 men come riding by each takes a pear and leave 11 hanging there

no not a pear as in 12 but 12 individual pears in a tree. the kinda pear you eat...do the math
and no cheating, be a sport

OK, for lack of imagination, here's a stupid answer:
the "12" is in base 4, the "11"s are in base 2.

"There's only 10 kinds of people in this world:
those who understand binary, and those who don't"

3. Is there a huge time delay between the first and last man riding past? So that the tree has had enough time to grow 10 more pears in the time it takes them to take 11?

what if each man rides by one at a time, 1 each year, leaving the tree time to grow 12 more pears?

edit- or is that what you meant?

No that wouldn't work. Pears fall off pear trees every year.

I mean there is maybe a two week time period between the first and the last, so the tree, which has lots of little baby pears budding, produces enough to replace 10 of the pears removed by the riders.

we had a pear tree in the garden when I was a kid and they pretty much grow at the same time at the same rate, from the blossom stage on.

7. your complicating things with time, the answer to the riddle is right in front of you. do not add another factor into the equasion, i didnt mention time. a riddle is all about the words. what one word could mean something completely different

high?

9. ## lol

no man the answer is simple each of you will find it....*hint, hint*

10. "12 pears hanging high", mayhaps there are pears that aren't hanging high, 10 of them, so that 11 are left over.

Alternatively these men could have an odd custom where they hang up pears after eating them, unfortunately one of them was too eager and ate all of his, so they couldn't re-hang it :P

Edit: looking at the new hint I'll try this again.
"Each takes a pear", note that it doesn't say that they take it from the tree, this would make me think that the first man takes one, then passes it around.

Edit: removed the word 'man' from quote.

11. where does it say each man takes a pear? your adding words, dont add words and yes the pear came from the tree

11 men come riding by each of the 12 pears, they take one pear (for the whole group) and leave 11. You need a comma after "each".

Edit. Dang, I meant to say they take "one pear".

Which is what I was trying to say, but failed miserably at.

15. kinda but no and you maybe right about the comma after each but i dont see it. its so easy every one, dont add words dont change words. see the problem as it is. your looking at the hint i gave you as a group... each..dont do that. im john

also should it not be 'take'(minus the 's'); you wouldn't say '11 men takes a pear'

Perhaps Each is the name of the only guy that takes a pear. Everyone else just rode by.

If written like this: 12 pears hanging high, 11 men come riding by. Each takes a pear and leaves 11 hanging there.

Nope. Your "each" hint got me.

The big problem there being that 'leaves' sorta gives it away, I guess you have to hope that they'll think it's a typo.

Ah, alternatively you could do it this way:
12 pears hanging high, 11 men come riding by. Each takes a pear which leaves 11 hanging there.

I think that solves the problem of the sentence showing that Each is a single person.

23. now wasn't that fun boy's and girl's

A guy named Willie Each, picks one pear.

26. Except "each" is lowercase. Names are in uppercase, so it would have to be "Each". Therefore although that may be the intended solution it does not work as the riddle is currently written.

Of course if it was 12 pears per tree, and there were 11 trees, and each took one from a different tree then it would work. You specificy 12 in a tree, but not how many trees there are.

Each man takes a pear and they hang the eleventh man by a rope around his neck from the tree.

At least he had a pear before he died.
