I've never been into classical music much, but I've been listening to Classic Examples on CKUA more and more. I've enjoyed classical scores of movies, now that's translating to getting a much better appreciation of the form itself which is immense. I also like listening to the host Mark Antonelli, when I was volunteering at CKUA a few years ago I got to talk briefly with him. A very friendly guy and he tried to explain to me a bit about the music that I was busy re-shelving in the classical part of the CD library.

When I was ripping new CDs into the CKUA data base I was also amazed at how much new classical music is being produced, it is still a very vital musical form.

Hadn't heard it in quite a while

    Song for Whoever

Both Paul and Dave on this one

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lj6YpfgzxE4

Good example of Paul Heaton wrapping barbed commentary in a soft Ballad

I love you in the songs I write and sing

And I love the PRS cheques that you bring

    Cheap, never cheap
I'll sing you songs till you're asleep
When you've gone upstairs I'll creep
    And write it all down

Oh Shirley, oh Deborah, oh Julie, oh Jane
I wrote so many songs about you
    I forget your name

    Deep so deep,
The number one I hope to reap
Depends upon the tears you weep,
    So cry, lovey cry

Finaly, Paul Heaton still at the top.
Recording with Jacqui Abbott 16 years after she left the South.
Single from the latest album 'Wisdom, Laughter and Lines'
    'I Don't See Them'
Another deceptive song. A 'duet' between a man and his dead love.
(Filmed in Scarborough at the Futurist Theatre last year. One if the 'Mods' on the Scooters and dancingvin the club is a friend of mine.)

My love so very good to me

Thanks to Captain Swoop, Rocking Chair by Beautiful South. I had forgotten about that band.

When I first got cable, there were doing a live concert promo and were playing concerts by Beautiful South and Blue Man Group daily. I loved that, because I had never seen either live. I finally managed to see Blue Man Group and it was awesome, but Mike Relm stole the show. He does audio-visual remixes of pretty much anything. They are incredible.

Here is Iron Man and Doctor Who trailer remixes.

Paul Heaton has been pretty consistent right from his early days.
First with the Housemartins and then Beautiful South which he formed with Dave Hemingway who was the drummer in the Housemartins but moved to co-lead vocals. Sean Welch the former Housemartins Roadie on bass and Dave Rotheray longtime friend and collaborater of both Heaton and Hemingway on guiter.
Brianna Corrigan was a session singer on the first South album and became a member if the band later being replaced by Jacqui Abbott who was replaced in her turn by Alison Wheeler.
Although Heaton was the writer he treated the band as a collective giving equal royalty rights to all the members.
Paul and Jacqui have recently released two albums and his writing is as good as ever. Social commentary and political barbs wrapped in catchy pop along with lovely love songw.
