Diesbourg will be paid a $25,000 installment every year for 40 years.
I'm thinking there has to be a better payment plan for this guy.

You know, sometimes I think football teams should hire retired soccer players as kickers. Roberto Carlos would be a great kicker.

Yeah, that's not really a million dollars in terms of what it's worth now, more like $300,000 or so.
Everything I need to know I learned through Googling.

I see the X-Prize gang has sunk to new lows when looking for alternative propulsion:

Seriously, the guy who planned the event must be in trouble.

"I tell ya boss, there is no way the little gimp will make the kick."

When everyone else was cheering, the MC was having a coronary.

I wonder if he's too old to go on Auburn's Special Teams...
'cause now they just have special ed teams with the hoods, the greasers, and the 'tards.

Our local news sports guy showed the video of the attempt. What I found interesting was that he missed wide right on 3 tries at shorter range!

    Would you please define:

    1.) hoods
    2.) greasers
    3.) 'tards

    Thanks in advance - Keith

It was in a domed stadium, so the wind wasn't a factor.

Nonetheless, to put one through the uprights from 50 yards out, with $1M on the line, now THAT'S pressure.

    Hood probably means hoodlum.

'Tard is probably a shortened version of "retard", and "greaser" is an ethnic slur. Publiusr, I think you should edit your post...

Good idea---can we draft Beckham yet? (Say, what does that read on his left arm? 01101001's art?)

Actually, there are insurance policies that are taken out to cover contests like this. The promoter takes out a policy to cover the cost of the prize, but pays only a small amount, based upon the odds of the event actually occuring. I know this because my uncle, who owned a car dealership, would offer a new corvette as a prize at a local golf tournament. Whoever made a hole-in-one would win the car. He said that the small amount he paid for the insurance to cover the cost of the car made for good advertising.

Oh wow 50 yards! But wait this was at halftime of a CFL game. Don't they use the metric system up there?

So that's only like what ... 36 American yards?

    Re: "Greaser"

In S. E. Hinton's marvellous works of fiction (The Outsiders being the best known), "greasers" are the local poor kids. They are called "greasers" because of the grease in their hair. In fact, they call themselves greasers as well. "Greasers" are generally underacheivers, most of whom drop out and many of whom end up with police records. It is not an ethnic slur in this context.

Her books are generally set in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was 16 when The Outsiders was published, and she plays a nurse in the movie.

A metre is longer than a yard (3.28 feet/metre vs. 3 feet/yard). The Canadian Football field is longer and wider than the American field.

Yes, and 50 yards is still 50 yards, even though it is only about 46 meters.

Our football, despite only having three downs, still uses yards. It's the only reason I know what a yard actually is. The CFL field is 110 yards long (about 100 m) and 65 yards wide, with 20 yard deep end zones, compared to the NFL's 100 yards long by 53.3 yards wide, with 10 yard end zones.

Also, that guy with his million dollars probably made more than 99% of the CFL players this year. I've heard that due to massive public backlash, they're thinking of giving him $800 000 this year, and will pay the rest of the money over time. That's far better for him, because the interest on $1 000 000 just sitting in the bank has to be $50 000/year, double the $25 000 they were planning to give him!
