Mike "Xena" Brown in Discovery Channel Promo

I saw it last night, on the Discovery Channel. I wasn't paying much attention. Some guy's sitting there talking about how he's known for finding things, how you have to look where other people don't look. It's a promo for the Discovery Channel.

At the end he says he's Mike Brown -- and probably he gave a brief mention of his discovery of the new maybe-planet so people would know who he was. Pertty cool. I hope to see it again and see it better.

Heh. I saw another Discovery Channel promo in what must be a common-theme series. Unfortunately I gave it the same lack of attention. Out of the corner of my ear, I heard this dude explain that he invented the Clapper (sound-activated lamp switch).

I finally saw the Mike Brown spot again. He's on a golf course speaking about discoveries, finding a lost ball. From a bench he says, "I'm Mike Brown and I led the team that discovered the tenth planet," while the video switches to a star map with a spot labeled 'Planet 2003UB313'.

Another one of the series features the guy who invented spinning wheel rims.

Except it isn't the 10th planet, and likely never will be. If its a planet at all, surely it'll be the 11th, or 12th or who knows what....

They should get Lucy Lawless to do some spots with him.

Mike Brown's current lust for glory is really annoying me. I'm involed in "moderating" the Wikipedia articles on the solar system and on planets, & every few days I have to remove someone's statement that the tenth planet has been found, or the 12th or whatever. I must give Brown credit: he has a better knack for media manipulation than most creationists. For God's sake, when is the IAU going to settle this?

Aren't they supposed to settle it by the time of next year's IAU get-together in Prague?

I think the 4 `classes` of Planets thing might fly. 2 Major Classes & 2 Minor Classes

    Majors
    Terretrials (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars)
    Giants (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune)

    Minors
    Asteroid Belt (Ceres et al)
Kuiper Belt (Pluto, Charon, Sedna et al)

Though if they do do that, not sure where that leaves the `How many planets in our Solar System?' debate..........
