Arkham Horror: The Card Game thread (anyone else play it?)

Just got into Arkham Horror: The Card Game, which is a Lovecraftian game with strong elements of role-playing. Anyone else enjoying this? I am running solo campaigns by myself as well as playing one campaign with my wife.

I've got it - it is on my list of games I should get around to playing one of these days. Unfortunately thanks to Kickstarter, impulse buying and COVID lockdowns that list is currently a very, very long list...

The theme looks great and the mechanics seem a good balance between complex and interesting.

It is complicated but not impossible; you need practice to get the game rhythm right for what to do during turns, which cards do what, etc. I enjoy it but you need about 2-3 free hours to set up and play through a single scenario. We have a lot of cats, which makes the set-up time for me longer and more complicated (things go into boxes so as not to get scattered on the floor).

For solo scenarios I find it less frustrating if I don't give my character weaknesses (or else you repeat a scenario too many times to get through it). I allow a fairly loose deck construction for the same reason, but if playing with anyone else I follow the rules. I just want to get through each adventure without constantly going insane, destroying clues I need to advance the game, etc. Some insanity and death is of course allowable. I am fond of playing Roland Banks, the "X-Files 1925" FBI agent. Nice balance of Guardian and Seeker classes.

I should say that even without weaknesses, a solo adventure is quite challenging and you can still get killed, go insane, etc.

A major reason I got into Arkham Horror was because I was such a die-hard Call of Cthulhu gamer and DM back in the day. We had a huge group composed of a lot of the old-school TSR people. It was hysterical. Arkham Horror just fills my need for happy fuzzy things.
