No launch has taken place yet this year but we should be watching not a country but a company. SpaceX. They have stated they will have at least 50 launches this year. The other category we need to watch are the small rockets. More than a dozen will be trying their 1st rocket this year.

Heh, funny to see the 2021 bit. Still 2020 here for seven hours.

SpaceX always tends to overstate goals a bit (mind you, they manage to do a lot too, just often don’t hit ambitious goals) so I’ll believe their launch numbers when I see them. My biggest concern would be if something again goes seriously wrong with a Falcon 9. They’ve been doing really well on that score for some time, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see something happen eventually. That could easily put them back for a good chunk of the year.

Rocket Lab I classified as New Zealand, as the driving force behind it is a New Zealander, and most of the work is done there. ESA is another exception to the rule. They launch from South America. They also use Russian rockets for some of their launches from their launch site.

The satellites were carried by a Long March-4C rocket. It was the 359th flight mission of the Long March carrier rocket series, the launch center said.

The Russian Aerospace Forces, itself a division of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, has launched a Lotos reconnaissance satellite to compliment their next-generation Liana SIGINT (signal intelligence) satellite system. Liftoff took place at around 20:45 UTC (15:45 EST) on Tuesday, 2 February 2021, from Site 43 at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome – located 800 kilometers north of Moscow.

This was the first orbital launch attempt of the year for the Russian Federation, and the first flight of the Soyuz launch vehicle in 2021.
