This morning we went to the Sis' house and unwrapped presents and had a breakfast of beans, hash browns, bacon and an English muffin. And when we got a went to sleep until the evening because I was over tired, and there was no Christmas dinner at the neighbors because of Covid. Also a few people who had to travel a bit had to stay at home. Tomorrow there is a turkey dinner at the the Sis' house.

My family's having a post-Xmas Zoom today with friends.
We spoke to my father & stepmother extensively Christmas morning while opening presents. Dinner was low-key in our house, due to my sister's kids being with their Dad instead in the PM hours, but we're doing a fancier meal tonight.

We did the full dinner: Turkey, mashed spuds, stuffing, gravy, yams, cranberry salad. All from the supermarket deli! Just the two of us.

We had roast beef with spinach and rice yesterday, and coquito eggnog (technically no eggs at all, but a Puerto Rican drink of coconut cream, coconut milk, and agave).

Our Christmas dinner was a repeat of last year’s: Sauerbraten, Rotkohl, mashed potatoes, and glazed baby carrots.

Oh... Rotkohl, yummy! I haven't made that in a few years.
We had Rouladen, potatoes and a crunchy baked vegetables medley.

I stopped at a Kwik-E-Mart for a burrito but they were all gone, so I got three sandwiches.
Today's Zoom-dinner was roast beef, potato casserole, green bean casserole, preceded by assorted appetizers like shrimp and antipasto.
(The beef was cooked and shared by friends. It had garlic, which my sister is highly allergic to. So they also made Cornish game hen without seasoning, just for her.)

I'm making turkey soup today. We didn't roast a turkey for Christmas dinner, but I have frozen stock from Thanksgiving. Discovering I can make delicious turkey soup is one of my best experiences of the past 10 years!

Nice! I quite like Rouladen but I haven’t tried my hand at it yet. The wife isn’t keen on it based on the time or two that she’s had it.
Speaking of the missus, since I was to make the traditional gravy for the Sauerbraten, she baked up a batch of ginger snap cookies ahead of time. Very tasty, with more ginger bite than the store-bought cookies...and larger, too. I thought nothing of the size difference, used the prescribed number of cookies, and wound up with an insane amount of gravy.
For days, because that’s just how we (dinner) roll. Just the two of us...stupid quantities of food. We like leftovers.

We've got our snacks for New Year's Eve party! (Limited seating, sold out; no special guests. IE, just my immediate family.)

I getting the idea to burn some brush soon, like a funeral pyre to 2020, but the weather probably won't be good for a while. (When you have lot of trees around it builds up over time.)

I am curious how Times Square and the various shows in other places will look with social distancing. I read on some news site they will be keeping people out of Times Square or at least trying to. They said they normally let people in around 3pm (I think with some airport-like security stations) and require they stay within barriers until after midnight. Now the barriers will be used to keep them out, except for some singing groups and so on.

Speaking from a sunny morning in Perth in 2021 I wish everyone a Happy New Year - when it comes around to you. Last night was very quite here in the suburbs.
Just saw three fire truck from the volunteer fire department that is further out headed into town and the last one turned into the community of Bartlett Settlement.
