Betelgeuse keeps finding ways to get in the news. Now that its magnitude has returned to normal, Australian astronomers say that it may be smaller and closer than thought.
Betelgeuse is a bear for attempting to measure its parallax, because it is a monstrous blob whose irregularities of shape and brightness are larger than the parallax in question.
