    Share Your Fall Color!

A place to share the changing of seasons in your locale.

It looks like we're going to have another season muted colors this year. But still, I took a short walk to grab a few quick shots.
Looking back toward the house then at the end of the street, up the mountain...what can be seen of it, anyway:

Yellows and golds are the dominant fall colors here, mainly from cottonwoods, alders, and birches, and even the devil's club. Fireweed adds subdued oranges and red, as does mountain ash but ours hasn't started turning yet.

Note: While the devil's club leaves look somewhat like maple, they're about 14-16 inches (35-40 cm) across.

The trees are starting to change color but this fern had a head start.

We don’t have much in the way of fall colors, especially not this early. We do get some, but more in November, or perhaps a little earlier. It doesn’t really seriously start cooling off until November. December-January is when it gets really cold by local standards (nights sometimes below freezing). I do remember fall colors being more impressive in Alaska and Nebraska.

Ha, you Northern Hemisphere imperialists and that mysterious season called Fall. These are the colours that are actually around at this time of year.

(We went up to Kings Park, about 25% bigger than New York's Central Park, to have a look at some of our local wildflowers. It is on a bluff overlooking the centre of town.)

Nope. Although I didn't mind seeing ozduck's photos...quite nice...I'll dig my heels in. Fall color. Autumn color. Herbstfarben. Whether the colors come in September, October, March, or April. I have spoken.

I assume no Leavenworth for you this year, unfortunately! Or pumpkin pitching for me. I should be setting up tomorrow.

Actually, yes, we're still going next week. We need it. The fest is cancelled of course but wine country is is open to varying degrees, so there's plenty to do. We're skipping the usual overnight stay at SEA and will instead beat feet right out of town for a day near Prosser, two in Walla Walla, and three in Leavenworth before heading back to SEA for the last night. As we did last year, we're taking the high desert route from Walla Walla to Leavenworth, rather than backtrack through Ellensburg.

Here's 4 snapshots out our laundry room window. From left to right it's sweet potato vines (still green) with some zinnias and cosmos scattered about, next is a row of young autumn spinach with more flowers about, then pan right to some peppers in the distance with asst colors. Towering over top of this garden is the Dogwood tree which now sports deep red/burgundy leaves and red seed pods (though not visible here). So far it's the only colorful tree around.

Ok I will post some autumn photos in March /April. But I warn you that in a continent that has almost no deciduous trees our Autumn colour is mainly green with perhaps some yellow Banksia.

Well, it’s pretty appropriate for Australia to be yellow and green!

Can't get it to load--probably the file's too big--but I got a lovely shot of red blackberry leaves against the side fence, which is weathered wood with lichen on it. I'll have to see about actually loading it onto Instagram, which is usually more trouble than it's worth for me. (I take pictures with a camera and go online with a computer, and to use Instagram I have to upload the pictures onto my tablet first.)

I’ll post something in about six months!
A: "Things that are equal to the same are equal to each other"
B: "The two sides of this triangle are things that are equal to the same"
C: "If A and B are true, Z must be true"
D: "If A and B and C are true, Z must be true"
E: "If A and B and C and D are true, Z must be true"

Therefore, Z: "The two sides of this triangle are equal to each other"

Our local rowans (= mountain ash) are pumping out berries big time, but beginning to turn purple in their crowns.

The Scottish moorland is now fully into its autumn colours in the north of the country--the deer grass, heather and bracken turn different shades of brown at this time of year, producing a nice dappled appearance.

    Trees? We got trees.
The mixed woodland on the wall of the Corrieshalloch Gorge is currently displaying the whole range of autumnal stages, from still green to almost leafless.

Most of our leaves have fallen and because they had some rain on them, I spent almost 4 hours of my Saturday blowing, raking, and wheel-barrowing loads and loads of them. But I'm not quite done yet. Our mountain ash and a handful of others are holding on to a mix of leaves.
