    Balloon observation with 6-inch scope

I just now spent a few minutes observing a balloon with my 6-inch Dob. I looked up after setting up the scope and saw a brilliant starlike spot about as bright as Venus and nearly stationary. With the scope at 47x it was clearly a translucent balloon with some sort of payload dangling below it and swinging wildly. While I was watching it suddenly burst, making a lot of confetti and a large fragment still attached to the payload. There was a brief cloud when it burst. I watched it fall for a couple of minutes before calling it quits.
