Air Force Academy to produce more officers for Space Force. Cadets at the academy can choose to serve in the Air Force or the Space Force after they graduate. Speaking on a Mitchell Institute webcast, Clark said he estimates 116 cadets from a graduating class of about 1,000 this year will go to the Space Force. That number is set based on how many officers the Space Force needs. Clark said there are more volunteers for Space Force duty “than we have slots to give.”

James Dickinson released a “commander’s strategic vision” document that lays out broad goals for Space Command. The commander of U.S. Space Command warns in the new document that keeping satellites safe from hostile attack will require a coordinated response involving all elements of the U.S. military and allies.

It’s now official: There will be no admirals in the U.S. Space Force. The Space Force on Jan. 29 revealed its new rank structure for officers and enlisted personnel. The service for the most part is adopting the U.S. Air Force ranks. The only change the Space Force made is in four categories of Air Force enlisted ranks called “airman.” The equivalent ranks in the Space Force will be “specialist.” All the officers’ ranks stay the same as the Air Force, said the Jan. 29 memo. The new ranks are effective Feb. 1.
