An advert came across my facebook page around the time of the Apollo 11 anniversary and I just couldn’t resist.
3D printed in negative relief, USB rechargeable, 16 color selections, and remote control. What more could a spacey gadget geek want?

Man is a tool-using animal. Nowhere do you find him without tools; without tools he is nothing, with tools he is all. — Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881)
Well, gee thanks. That sent me down the Amazon rabbit hole and it produced a bunch of offerings. The moons seem to range from 3.2 to 7.1 inches in size, although I wonder if that 7.1-inch model is a measurement of the box; salt grains advised. There's also a class of smaller, levitating moon globes but at greater cost.
That's a good Christmas wish-list item.
I bought mine from Articture. It’s the “regular” 15 cm size. A 20 cm model is also listed but is currently sold out.
Based on schlaugh’s link, it would appear that I paid too much for mine but it was an impulse buy and I try not to look back on those too much.

So where have they put the recharging port?

I love how the stands evoke those impossible 3-D objects you see drawings of.
Cum catapultae proscriptae erunt tum soli proscript catapultas habebunt.
The greatest journey of all time, for all to see
Every mission makes our dreams reality
And our destiny begins with you and me
Through all space and time, the achievement of mankind
As we sail the sea of discovery, on heroes’ wings we fly!
Now for one with tiny light past the terminator to represent lunar colonies.

That's lovely, and my children would pull it off the stand and run all over the house with it immediately.

"Now everyone was giving her that kind of look UFOlogists get when they suddenly say, 'Hey, if you shade your eyes you can see it is just a flock of geese after all.'"
"You can't erase icing."
"I can't believe it doesn't work! I found it on the internet, man!"
Then it would probably be better to get them an inflatable version!

The mental image of that makes me smile. I do have to admit that I find myself picking it up from time to time. The glow combined with its texture practically demands it...at least of me. The 3D printed plastic seems pretty durable, so running around the house with it would probably be okay. Thrown or fallen upon? Maybe not so much.
I did discover something interesting. The remote also includes four modes of lighting variation like a pulsating change from one color to another, gradual transistions, etc. While handling it this morning, I tossed it from hand to hand a few times and it changed from one set color to another, then another. I don’t know if it has an accelerometer in it or a loose connection.

That's really nice!
How about one that's an accurate representation of my favorite planet, The Sun? Man. I'd show it to my friends, and they'd say "Ahh! My eyes! What is that?"" and "Help, Fire!"
Probably too big a drain on the power bill, eh?
Seriously, I like that moon light effect.
Lots of other globes for sale...elsewhere
