In the Trivial (or not so trivial) stuff that makes you happy thread, KaiYeves raised the subject of haiku.
I thought it might be fun that people could post poems they had written, haiku or not.

This is one I wrote years ago
Dream,
gorgeous rain
honey of spring
Gone,
shadow winter
bitter white sky
Shine,
delicate sun
recall the luscious garden
Nice, Swift!
(one of mine, written in the spring)
Out on the back deck
Wading through the pollen of oak, walnut, alder
I watch the moon climb the ridge
And leap into the sky
Nice!!
I might give it a try (current is not a good time).
p.s.: Peter Pauper Press published lovely little collections of Japanese Haiku from mid-1950s to early 1970s. Check them out.I've got every volume.

Somewhere (one of my kids has it stashed) I have a large volume of haiku![]()
I have no haiku.
I wish I did, but I don't.
Shame, it would have rocked.

starry haze all in my brain
lately things don't seem the same
I'm star gazing but I don't know why
excuse me while I watch the sky
Martians, Grays, and robots
Observe us from on high.
Governments deny this.
That's why I watch the sky.
There once was a dingbat named Bjork
(not related to Mork from Ork)
who could only sing
like a real ding-a-ling;
She is the Earth intruder
who never liked "MacGruder"![]()
Bad Astronomy
Didst bring many of us here
Oh thank you, Phil Plait
Reference to itself
The self referring haiku
Down the rabbit hole
Dome of the night sky
Jeweled with tiny motes of light
Dreams of distant worlds
^Nice!
This is a haiku
The second line must be seven
The last is five beats
One Two Three Four Five
Six Seven Eight Nine Ten Eel
Evan Twelve Thirteen
Stars, between the dots,
Weaving them together,
See Con stellar plots

When we realize that patterns don't exist in the universe, they are a template that we hold to the universe to make sense of it, it all makes a lot more sense.

(I wrote quite a few poems during my high school and college years; even during this time, I call myself "the lousy poet".)
I think there cannot ever be,
a poem lovely as a cup of tea,
a tea that spreads it warmth around
from leaves that started in the ground,
so woodman pause, lay down your axe,
and have a cup of tea, relax.
