    Cool It just doesn't belong!

There should be a name for "this." Maybe there is, and I'm unaware of it.

Yesterday I was browsing, via Google Images, for old Gothic novels. One publisher in particular (Paperback Library Gothic).

Of course a slew of book (cover) scans return. An entire pageful.

And in the middle of it? A photo (from 1964 probably - by looks of suits and hair) of...

    The Beatles.

What the heck is a photo of The Fab Four doing on THAT page?

There's the cheeky chipmunks, surrounded by cover art scans of women fleeing from gloomy castles, and other sinister settings.

I found that so strange; yeah, yeah, yeah! Is there a name for it?

I thought this was going to be about the Harley in your driveway!

The problem with image searches is that they are based (as far as I know) on the TEXT on the page. If someone has a page about how they are a fan of gothic novels and the Beatles, and have a picture of the Fab Four on their page, it can turn up.

Sometimes it is word association if your search engine can't find what you are looking for, or somebody's pictures mixed in an album with the same title.

This is what I got when I searched gothic novels

    True.

It did give me a laugh. Vampires and crumbling ruins and clouded lightning...and The Beatles!

Type O Negative rocks!! I read in one of their CD liners, their citing The Beatles as an influence. Definite "playfulness" in some of their songs.

I have a conjecture that any arbitrary Google image search eventually returns a picture of a cat.

I just did a Google image search on "any arbitrary" and this was the first hit.

This one was about 16 rows down.

It seems that if my search terms, no matter what they are, include "space shuttle", the Challenger smoke cloud will be one of the image results, even if the actual search terms have nothing to do with it.
