What will be the new Doomsday?

First it was Y2K, then the Mayan calendar "end". Now that we only have a matter of months left till Dec 21, what do you think will be the next Doomsday Date meme to infect the Web?

Probably something political (USA), as in the next President will definitely be the Antichrist! So mark Inauguration Day 2013 on your calendars.

Only a few weeks after the Mayan one...not enough time to get a full head of steam after the second disappointment.

    Oh yeah.

Well, I'm out of ideas. Perhaps a professional astronomer will chime in; is there going to be a major alignment of the planets within the next 2 to 3 years? If so, that's always a red flag for the doomsdayers. Especially if one of the cloud bands on Jupiter does another (temporary) disappearing act during an alignment; that had some doomsdayers going a while back...

They're pretty common, actually, because the definition of "major alignment" is so wonderfully vague.

That "etc" link originally went to a list of future end dates. The near term is neatly laid out here:

    and the far term here:

    4/30/13. Here's the proof:

(4)th letter of the alphabet: D
    (30 = 15 + 15)th letter of the alphabet: O + O
'(13)th letter of the alphabet: M

    4/30/'13 quite literally spells DOOM!

    . . . gotta love numerology.

But for you naysayers still out there, 4/30 is my birthday, and I'll be 31 in 2013. 13 is unlucky, and 31 is just 13 backwards. Double unlucky. Plus the apocalypse tells of FOUR horsemen (April is the FORTH month!) Said horseman allegedly send you to heaven, hell, or purgatory. That's THREE places. 3+0 = THREE! 4/30/'13 = 4 horsemen / 3+0 possible fates / 13 is a cursed year. HOLY CRAP!

Oh man, that does it. I'm running uptown right now to stock up on water, powdered milk, canned foodstuffs, etc. This is all your fault, Fazor!

Fazor, that was clevor. I'm thinking 2020 will be another biggie because it represents perfect vision, of course. And it's only 7 years after your Date o' Doom, which is an important number. So, Obviously the bad stuff starts on your date and ends in 2020, the year when we all receive the great vision and live happily ever after... if you believe, that is, everyone else will die horrible deaths, but they deserve it for not believing in the Fates Of Fazor.

I'm imbibing dehydrated water right now. I couldn't live without it. Great stuff - it's quite airy.

On another site I post on I got in trouble for being snarky to a boob who was saying the CME we just experienced was tied in the the all wise Mayan's ability to predict future tech being vulnerable to it and predicted our collapse because of it.

Called him an ignorant, attention-seeking drama queen, explained my take on the matter and he cried to the mods.

    Go figure.

Good thing they like me there.

If it's the case that 2020 is The Year of Great Vision, then wouldn't 2010 be The Year of Even Better Vision? And how come things look so dang fuzzy...

Remember, in 2000, when we could see so far that we could see the future? That was before the herding cats Super Bowl commercial, the start of the new wars, and economic collapse. Hmmm...three things.

When they get a definitive sighting of the Higgs boson. The LHC will then, instantly, turn into a black hole, devouring Switzerland and impoverishing thousands of billionaires and candidates for president.

As long as it takes Belgium along with it I'm happy.

Whenever it is, I wish it would get a move on, I'm getting sick of waiting.

What's wrong with Belgium? It's not as if it's full of East Haven mayors.
